Come for the game. Stay for the mates.

A local football group for the fellas. Bibs on, a proper game under lights, then hang around for a chat after. Played for years or haven't touched a ball since school, there's a spot for you.

We respect your privacy. No spam, ever.

A third space

You don't need another group chat. You need a game.

Making mates gets harder after school and uni. Work takes over, people move, and the group chat goes quiet. Football fixes a lot of that. You run around, you laugh at a missed shot, and somewhere between the kick-off and the walk back to the car you've actually got to know someone.

We're a local Christian not-for-profit, but this isn't a church service. It's football. Everyone's welcome, so come along, get involved, play a game or two and meet some new mates.

We host local groups where guys belong — whatever you believe.

Why we're different

More than ninety minutes

  • A proper game: Bibs, goals, and enough competition to make it fun. Not so much that anyone gets left out.
  • All abilities: Some guys play every week. Some haven't played since Year 9. Both end up in the same team.
  • Real mates: The kind you see every week, not the kind you add on Instagram and never speak to again.

All your questions, answered.

Is it just for guys?

Yes, for now. The football group is men only, 18 to mid-30s. We'd love to start a women's group down the track, but for now it's just the guys.

I'm not great at football. Can I still come?

Absolutely. We've got guys who play every week and guys who haven't kicked a ball since school. Teams get mixed up so nobody's stuck on the wrong end of a hiding. If you can run and you're keen, you're in.

What actually happens at a session?

Everyone turns up and grabs a bib. The host opens with a quick prayer, then it's a proper game with goals and a bit of competition, but nobody is keeping a league table. Most guys hang around at the end for a bit of a chat. You're welcome to come and hang out afterwards, and there's usually an invite to head along to an event. Your host will text you the exact time and place before your first week.

How much does it cost?

Just come along for your first week. After that, we ask everyone for a $5 donation to help towards hiring the ground. If $5 is a stretch, don't let that stop you coming. Just let your host know.

Who runs these groups?

The Common Room Football is a partnership between SeeSalt, an Australian registered not-for-profit charity, and Bridge the Gap. Local groups are run by volunteers from mainstream churches in your area (Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, etc.). They're regular guys — students, tradies, professionals — who love football and want to build real community.

Everyone's welcome and everyone's looked after. Our hosts are trained in healthy boundaries, so every guy who turns up gets treated with respect.

Do I need to be religious to come along?

Nope. The guys who come are from all sorts of backgrounds — some are spiritual, some are sceptical, and plenty don't believe anything in particular. You don't need any kind of faith to play. Believe or don't believe whatever you want — everyone's welcome here.

Is this a church thing?

No. It's social football, run by good people who happen to be Christians from local churches (we'd rather be upfront about that), but once we get started it's game on.

Each session starts with a quick prayer, faith comes up in conversation, and at the end there's an invite to Alpha, a relaxed course for exploring the big questions. Say yes or no. You're welcome on the pitch either way.

What if I don't want to keep coming?

Then don't. No strings, no awkward follow-ups. We keep only the details we need to connect you, we follow Australian privacy law, and if you want your details deleted, we do it straight away.
