The best conversations
happen side by side.

More than just a regular walk, this is a space to get outside, make new friends, and move beyond the superficial. A place where the conversation actually goes somewhere. Ditch the small talk and join us for a walk this week.

We respect your privacy. No spam, ever.

A third space

Find your community. Walk together. Ditch the small talk.

Think of this as a “third space” between work and home—a place where locals can get together and connect over a shared walk. We’re not here for career networking, dating opportunities or church services. Instead, we’re about genuine friendships and shared experiences. We’re a Christian not-for-profit, focused on creating open, safe and welcoming spaces to belong.

All your questions, answered.

I'm not very fit, can I come?

Absolutely. We walk at a chatting pace, not a training pace. From people getting back into movement to those who walk every day. The thing we have in common is wanting community, connection, fun vibes with no agenda. There will be others at the same pace as you, and plenty who are keen to take it easy and chat — so come along, you’ll be welcomed for sure!

What is this club?

The Common Room local city clubs are for young Australians who are over digital noise and looking for real-world communities to belong. Whether you are a uni student, new to the city after an interstate move, or have just landed from overseas, this is a space to find your feet with people who actually care.

To be clear: we aren’t a dating site, a singles’ mixer, or a “hustle culture” networking group. We skip the superficial “surface-level” posturing that often makes social events awkward. Instead, it’s a chilled environment where you can meet people, go for a walk, be honest about your journey and explore big questions about life and purpose—without the weird pressure or institutional expectations.

Who actually runs these clubs?

The Common Room is an initiative of SeeSalt, an Australian registered not-for-profit charity. Local groups are run by local volunteers from mainstream churches in your area (Anglican, Baptist, Catholic etc.). These volunteers are great people like you — students, tradies, and professionals—who are passionate about building community and helping others navigate life’s big questions.

Even though the vibe is casual, we take your safety seriously. Our events are a safe space, our volunteers are trained in healthy boundaries and there’s no weird vibes, so everyone feels secure and welcome.

How much does it cost?

Zilch, zero, nada. No fees, no donations, no nothing. If you want to buy yourself a coffee or drink after the walk, by all means, bring a few bucks, but aside from that, there are no costs at all.

How far do you walk?

Usually somewhere between three and five kilometres on flat, easy ground — think a loop of the local park, a stretch of the river or a coastal path. It’s about an hour, at a pace where nobody is out of breath and everybody can talk. Your host will let you know the route before you come.

Can children come?

We don’t provide any kind of planned supervision or programme for children, but that being said – if you want to come along but also need to watch your kids, and they are keen to walk with you – then no worries, you are more than welcome to come along. Confirm with your host, but prams are generally fine on our routes. Chat to your host if you have any questions or concerns, just know we are all about welcoming people, and making life easy so you can come along stress free.

What ages can come along?

There’s no strict rule, but generally most of our walkers are in their 20’s and 30’s.

What if I no longer want to come?

There are zero strings attached. If you decide walk club isn’t your vibe, you can simply head off at any time without any drama. You don’t even have to say goodbye (though that would be sad), we’re not here to hassle you or spam your inbox.

We respect your data privacy and only keep the bare essentials needed to get you connected. We follow Australian privacy laws, so if you ever want your details deleted, we do it straight away—no questions asked.

Do I need to be religious to come along?

Nope, not at all. This community is made up of people from all sorts of backgrounds—some identify as spiritual, some are skeptical, and many don’t identify with any religion or belief system at all. We just think life is better when you have real-world connections and a safe space to talk about the things that actually matter. Whether you have a specific faith or none at all, you’re exactly who this club is for.

Is there a "hidden agenda" to get me into a church?

Nope. We’re over the “bait-and-switch” too. While our volunteer hosts are from local mainstream churches, the walk club is exactly what it says on the tin: a walk club. Our goal is simply to build genuine community in a city that can often feel isolated. If you’re ever curious about faith, we’re happy to chat about it, but there’s never any pressure to join an institution or change what you believe to be part of the group.
